Euregio.Net® AG Company Background
Euregio.Net AG was founded in July 1995 with a private investment of 150,000 Euros by the Savelberg family and is still a privately held company today. Over the years, more than 700,000 Euros were invested into its Internet infrastructure. We own all of our servers and special appliances. Euregio.Net employs 3 persons full-time.In the beginnings, Euregio.Net’s core business was to provide Internet access in the German-speaking part of Belgium with a population of approximately 71,000 people. The Company became the market-leader in the area very quickly as this remote region was not covered by the ISP division of the state-owned telecommunication carrier.
The Company expanded its Internet offerings to include web site hosting, development, training, marketing and (local) content publishing. In 1996, international content publication was started and it is now one of the corner-stones of the business.
The content and marketing strategies became so successful that many companies started to emulate the sites and even copied the content out-right including typos. Euregio.Net sued the NASDAQ-listed copyright infringers and after a long running lawsuit was awarded a six-figure amount in lost revenues and punitive damages.
The remaining part of this page describes Euregio.Net’s entertainment network, also known as the EasyScopes Entertainment Network which was launched in February 1996 by Jochen “Joe” Savelberg.

Personal Background about Jochen “Joe” Savelberg
I started using computers at the age of 9 and I was hooked. I wrote my first database in BASIC when I was still in primary school. That was more than 20 years ago.
During high school I got interested in desktop publishing and computer networks. In my free time, I worked as a freelancer for the largest Macintosh user group in Europe -- running the BBS systems, doing custom programming and writing IT reviews.
I learnt that there was more to life than computers during my AFS student exchange to Australia. However I couldn't resist the opportunity to take the job as editor of the school magazine at my Aussie school. It was the first time this publication was created on computers.
As an university student, I started the first ISP business in the German-speaking community of Belgium together with my parents. This ISP business quickly became the market-leader in our region. I managed the server infrastructure and programmed my own interactive web sites.
Those sites were launched in late 1995 and changed my life. My studies became less important as I got into the online advertising game. New sites were added to the network.
As of mid-2009, almost 1.5 million people per month visit the sites -- mostly young women and teenage girls. (Source: QuantCast)
The sites have been featured in many magazines and received numerous awards. I've been invited to speak at different conferences around Europe and the USA.
Discussing new ideas and thinking out of the box is my favorite pastime. I've helped many different companies to improve their sites and applications.
One of my ideas got me invited to the Millennium celebrations in New York City as I was one of 5 winners for the best idea to celebrate the Year 2000 in Times Square.
When not at work I like to socialize and try new things. I took up skydiving lessons and drove an Formula 1 car in Spain. I'm an active player in the local darts league since 2007.
